Scrappy Tuesday

For this week's scrappy get-together Jen and I thought we would try our hand at making some homemade embellishments.  What a fun day we had!

First off, we were inspired by these great die-cut clouds from a manufacturer in France called 4 heures 37.  Aren't they cute?

Unfortunately, neither of us owns a Cricut cartridge with a "happy" cloud shape (all we have are angry-looking rainclouds) so cutting with the Cricut wasn't an option for us, but I found several cartoon-y clouds on the internet which I printed and used to make cardstock templates.  We may have got a bit carried away with tracing clouds!  Suffice it to say that we have clouds in all shapes and sizes and colours to last us quite a while.

Next up it was time to make accordion flowers.  We may be a bit late joining this craze but we just never realized how easy these are to make!  We put my Martha Stewart scoring board to good use and were amazed at what we could create with a strip of paper and a button!  Jen was so thrilled with these flowers that she bought herself a scoring board that very night.  LOL

For an even fancier look, you can punch one edge of your paper strip to create a very elegant flower such as this:

There are lots of tutorials to be found on YouTube which demonstrate the step-by-step process but these were the two that I found to be the best:

Next we made scrunched-up lollipop flowers.  Again, these are so easy to make.  We used a vintage-style newsprint paper bag but you can also use plain kraft paper bags.  A thin paper works best for these because it's easier to scrunch.  Inking the edges of the scallops also adds a nice touch.

Finally we made tiny flags using toothpicks and strips of paper.  These are so nice for stamping a tiny sentiment or a date.  I plan on making lots more of these because they take just minutes to create and will be a nice addition to layouts.

Next week we'll be trying some other types of embellishments and then the following week we'll be spending a day making a prize pack containing a variety of embellishments for our giveaway.  But for now, I'm off to make some more accordion flowers...

Until next time...
Susan :-)
